Ziyarat al-Ghadiriyya, as one of the enduring legacies of Imam Hadi (peace be upon him), enjoys a distinguished status and has been examined from various perspectives; however, it also requires attention from a historiographical viewpoint. This supplication portrays different phases of the life of Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (peace be upon him), including the Meccan period, the Medinan era, the period of the caliphs, the time of his governance, as well as certain personal characteristics of the Imam. One of the most significant phases addressed is the prophetic period in Mecca, which witnessed his acts of self-sacrifice. The present study seeks to examine how reports from the pre-Hijra period are reflected in Ziyarat al-Ghadiriyya and to answer the question of how the activities and actions of Amir al-Mu’minin during the Mecc an period are represented in this text. It argues that several actions and qualities of Imam Ali (peace be upon him)—such as his precedence in believing in the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family), being the first to pray alongside him, his pioneering role in jihad, and sleeping in the Prophet’s bed on the night of Laylat al- Mabīt—are explicitly referenced in Ziyarat al-Ghadiriyya. This article aims, through explaining and typologizing Imam Ali historiography in Ziyarat al-Ghadiriyya, to elucidate these events and characteristics.
