Abstract
The event of Ashura is one of the most significant and influential historical occurrences, which has been the subject of extensive examination and critique by historians and researchers from the early centuries of Islam to the present day. Exploring the causes of this event and uncovering its various dimensions has been a major concern across different periods, particularly during historical eras such as the Buyid and Safavid dynasties. Al-Irshad and Tadhkirat al-A’imma are among the works that have addressed the event of Ashura in two different periods (the Buyid and Safavid eras, respectively).
This study, conducted through a comparative approach and using a descriptive–analytical method with reliance on primary sources—especially the two aforementioned works—seeks to answer the question of how the reports of the event of Ashura are reflected in Al-Irshad and Tadhkirat al-A’imma. The hypothesis advanced in this research is that, in light of the political and social conditions prevailing at the time of the compilation of these two works—Al-Irshad (411 AH) and Tadhkirat al-A’imma (1075–1085 AH)—the representation of the event of Ashura in these two texts differs significantly.
